Desperately Seeking Comfy Shoes (That don’t look like Grandma’s)

Attention Shoe Designers and Manufacturers – What are you thinking?  I currently see two types of shoes on the market; those with 5+ inch heels for the woman who has everything and wants to meet an orthopedist or podiatrist, or flats with no padding for the woman who wants to feel every bump and pebble on their path.  Neither will work for me, I’m one of those women with ‘difficult feet syndrome’, meaning that I have to try on dozens of pairs of shoes, sandals, boots and sneakers to find anything that might fit my feet, my budget and don’t look like Granny shoes.

I am planning a trip for this fall that will include miles and miles of walking on city streets, through museums and historic cobblestone passages.  Those 5+ inch heels are not a potential choice, and neither are any other uncomfortable shoes.  I’ve decided I don’t want to wear sneakers, they don’t fit my ‘urban chic’ esthetic – I don’t want to look like a tourist.  I’ve been shopping for comfortable yet stylish shoes for two whole months.  I’ve been shopping at Nordstrom’s sale, The Walking Store, every ‘Comfort’ shoe store in two states and of course on line.  It’s looking bleak.  I may have to give up and wear ugly footwear if I can’t find anything in the next two weeks.  Are my standards too high?  Are my arches too low?

Please send me your suggestions, I’m tapped out.

Stylish Shoes Part 2- #ShoeShopping Abroad

Shoe-Boots and Booties from Spain

Shoe-Boots and Booties from Spain- why can’t I find these in US stores?

I just returned from a wonderful vacation in Portugal and Spain.  While there I did what any Tourist with a Credit Card would do – I shopped for shoes.  And I bought some too.  In fact I could’ve bought a lot more if my luggage had more room.  Why was I able to buy shoes so easily in Europe but I can barely find any in the US?  The stores in Europe stock hot shoes with 2 1/2 to 4 inch heels and platforms.  They look like the impossibly high stilettos that they also sell, but unlike those shoes the one’s with shorter heels are COMFORTABLE!

Nearly every shoe store I went into had lower heel options that were HOT.  I only wish I could have this experience here!  What was more shocking was that I saw lower heel (but still very stylish) shoes, boots and booties in Barcelona and Lisbon from brands that either are USA brands or International brands that are sold in US stores and online sites like http://www.zappos.com/ and http://www.piperlime.com.  Brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and Unisa were well represented with sexy shoes and boots with heels and platforms under 4 inches!  Why aren’t these shoes in my mall?

I don’t live in the boonies – my local mall is King of Prussia, http://www.simon.com/mall/malldirectory.aspx?id=845 – one of the biggest and best malls in the USA.  But try as I might I cannot find shoes with reasonable heels and platforms in the mall or in USA websites.  Nordstrom’s Shoe Buyers – listen up, I’m talking to you!!!

Women – we must rise up together and stop buying shoes that will cripple us or cause us to fall and break bones!  If women are so liberated in the 21st Century why are the manufacturers insisting that we need to wear shoes that limit our movement and make us walk like trees swaying in a hurricane?  Stop buying 6 inch heels and demand shoes that won’t leave you in surgery for ankle repair.  Because gorgeous comfortable shoes are Worth Having!
